Happy New Year at Gareloch Cottage! Places to see, things to do...

So as we welcome in another new year, time seems to be flying by at Gareloch Cottage and we're already getting ready for new guest' arrivals for 2024.


If you're looking for ideas for holidays this year, we'd love to invite you to stay at our cottage. Fully set up for a self catering break, it's located on a pretty peninsula close to Loch Lomond.


Gareloch Cottage is ideally situated to take relaxing beach walks and even try a spot of wild swimming in the Gareloch if you're feeling brave enough!

Cosy up on our terrace to admire the ever changing backdrop of the open sea loch and spectacular mountains. Re-charge and revitalise surrounded by nature.


Gareloch Cottage hosts up to 3 guests and whether you want to stay local or venture further afield, there's plenty to see and do.

January:


7th - Music Society Concerts, Helensburgh.

Join the Helensburgh Music Society for their seasonal programme of events.


10th - Horticultural Society Talks

One of the oldest societies in Scotland, the Helensburgh and Gareloch Horticultural Society holds a series of wildlife talks open to non-members to enjoy.


13th - Burns Supper, Helensburgh

Celebrating the life and poetry of Robert Burns with a fantastic line up of speakers over a 3 course meal, raising funds for local good causes.


March:


13th - 31st Glasgow International Comedy Festival

Featuring spectacular stand-up stars and home-grown favourites on stages across the city! Top comedy stars from around the UK and beyond will be coming, complemented by the very best of home-grown Scottish talent for a comedy extravaganza which is Europe’s largest comedy festival.



April:


5th - Explore Mugdock Castle, Milngavie

Join the Ranger Service on a walk through the Country Park to Mugdock Castle, ancient seat of the Clan Graham. Gain full access to the tower and climb the medieval steps to reach the battlements for a unique perspective of the surrounding landscape. About an hour's drive from Gareloch Cottage.



13th - The Cobbler Hill Race, Arrochar

Join this iconic race and the splendours of the mountains to help raise funds for Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team.



21st - Wylde Thistle Artisan Market, Helensburgh

Celebrating Scottish Craftsmanship and incredible talented local artisans . Enjoy locally made handcrafted produce and goods, coffee, cake and street food at this lovely market event.


May:


25th - The Drymen Show, Loch Lomond

A great day out on the Loch Lomond, this show has a wide range of entertainment representing the best of local farming and communities. Includes a fun fair, trade stands, main ring attractions and pet and craft tents. There's also classes and competitions including their very own Drymen Show Bake Off!



June:


1st -Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games

Located close to the shores of Loch Lomond and Helensburgh this event will be a variety of traditional Highland Games Competitions like the Sheaf Toss, Hammer Throw and of course the world-famous Caber Toss! There will be lots of athletics with dedicated Highland Dance stages. This is a great dog-friendly and family event.


July:


16th - Inveraray Highland Games

About 2 hours drive from the cottage, but well worth the drive to participate in this amazing event of traditional sport and dance. Set in the stunning grounds of this beautiful castle.




20th - Wod on the Loch Fitness Festival, Luss


Otherwise known as Luss Highland Games. 2 days of food, drink and fitness on the shores of Loch Lomond.



August:


16th - Gin and Rum Festival, Glasgow


If you’re thirsty for knowledge or just want to party the night away, the Gin & Rum Festival is for you! Discover new favourites with samples from hand-picked guest distillers, treat yourself at their themed Gin and Rum bars, and enjoy music from award-winning DJ and live entertainment.

31st - Go Swim Loch Lomond


If you dare! An amazing open water swimming event for all the family, based on the amazing shores of Loch Lomond.



So, not an exhaustive list by far - but it gives you a taste of what you can experience during your stay in this beautiful part of Scotland.
