Everyone’s idea of a great place to eat and drink is different, but we thought we’d include a short blog to share a few of our personal favourite cafés we’ve discovered a long the way.
Supporting local businesses is really important, and the cafés we mention are all family run and have a genuine passion for what they do.
The Perch - Garelochhead

You’ll always get a warm welcome from the guys at The Perch. Family run and dog friendly, this cafe is based in Garelochhead which is just a few minutes drive from the house; on the same route into Helensburgh.
Using local ingredients, they have a varied brunch and cafe menu, and we can recommend their hearty breakfasts, they do the best crispy bacon! We often pop in for morning coffee and pick up a slice of home made cake to take away for later. Check out their takeaway pizza service on a Friday night. A quick tip - they get very busy with tourists and locals alike, but you can ask them to reserve a table to avoid disappointment.
The Ginger Breadman Cafe - Helensburgh
Located near to the Co-op in Helensburgh. They serve really good fresh coffee and the cafe has a buzzy, friendly vibe. They bake their own crispy croissants which are perfect with a smoky coffee, but get there fairly early as does fill up quickly. Open all day - with some limited out door seating and again it’s dog friendly.
The Creggans Bar - Kilgreggan

We discovered this pub by chance when we first bought the house and were busy renovating it. Keen to find a place we could pick up a quick local takeaway, we popped in and ordered their scampi and chips. Sitting outside in the sun eating these fabulously crispy chips was heaven! It’s become part of our holiday when we visit the cottage, picking up a portion (and they’re pretty generous portions!) and where possible, eating it al fresco either on the terrace or at the back on our picnic bench.
